The Whole Process Of Drying FLowers

How To Dry Flowers In Silica Gel

If you are worried about your flowers drying process and want to do it yourself here is how you can do it!

To dry flowers using silica gel, you'll need an airtight container, silica gel desiccant, and your flowers. Place a layer of silica gel in the container, arrange your flowers on top, ensuring they don't touch, and then completely cover them with more silica gel. Seal the container and let it sit for a few days to a week, depending on the flower type and size, until they are dry. Here's a more detailed breakdown:

  1. 1. Prepare your flowers:Choose fresh, undamaged flowers. Trim the stems if desired and gently remove any excess leaves.
  2. 2. Select your container:Opt for an airtight container, such as a plastic bin or a cookie tin, that's large enough to hold your flowers without them touching each other.
  3. 3. Add silica gel:Pour a layer of silica gel into the bottom of the container, about 1-2 inches deep.
  4. 4. Arrange flowers:Carefully place the flowers on top of the silica gel, ensuring they are not touching. If drying multiple flowers, keep similar types together and consider their size, as larger flowers will take longer to dry.
  5. 5. Cover completely:Gently pour more silica gel over the flowers until they are completely covered.
  6. 6. Seal and wait:Seal the container tightly and place it in a cool, dry location.
  7. 7. Check for dryness:The drying time varies, but most flowers will be dry in 2-7 days. You can check for dryness by gently touching the petals – they should feel firm and brittle.
  8. 8. Remove and display:Carefully remove the dried flowers from the silica gel, gently brushing off any remaining crystals with a soft brush.
  9. 9. Reusing silica gel:Silica gel can be reused after drying it out. You can either bake it in the oven at a low temperature or microwave it in short intervals until it returns to its original color.
